Brimstone Psychology are a team of Educational Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and Specialist Teachers who offer intervention, assessment, and support.

Our vision as a team is:

  • To work systemically:  We apply psychology to understanding children and young people and the organisations that support them. We use a strength based, solution orientated and positive psychology approach to empower the system supporting a child or young person
  • To use a consultation model: We use consultation first to help those supporting young people to facilitate change
  • To be person-centred: We use a range of assessment methods tailored to suit individual need to deliver high quality, responsive and timely intervention, training, and support.
  • To be trauma responsive and resilience focused: Our team are responsible for the development and delivery of the Resilience Support Teaching Assistant (RESTA) and Resilience Support Organisation (RESO) programmes (www.restasupport.co.uk see for more information). Our interventions and training have a strong focus on supporting and promoting a holistic approach to children and young people’s wellbeing.

Support

Brimstone specialises in providing support that enables everyone in the child or young person’s (CYP) system to be reflective and responsive to need. We have created a programme of support for educational settings to enable CYP to develop educational resilience through our whole organisation training (RESO) quality mark and individual intervention (RESTA) training. If you are looking to train as either a RESO or RESTA please follow the link (www.restasupport.co.uk) to the RESTA support website. If you are looking for RESTA support for child, please click on our RESTA team member pages for more information and contact us to begin the intervention.

Our Services

Assessments

We work with schools, colleges and those supporting children and young people by using a consultation model. This means we use consultation to work collaboratively and consider views and perspectives to gain a better perspective of strengths and needs. Once we have a thorough picture, we can then decide next steps on the plan, do, review cycle. We work using a range of assessments methods.

Planning Meetings

At Brimstone we recognise that school SENCos value the role of the Educational Psychologist in planning meetings. We offer schools the opportunity to purchase planning meetings throughout the school year. In this way Head teachers and SENCos can support school staff to help them get the most from working with an Educational Psychologist with the added benefit being that time is used efficiently.

Training

You might want to consider training from our team if:

  • You want to understand children and young people’s behaviour and need strategies to support with this
  • You want to understand more about the different ways children learn and how you can develop your own assessment and intervention methods to support with this
  • You want to know more about the impact of certain conditions on learning
  • You want to keep up to date with best practice, policy and research
  • You want to help staff to develop skills to support children and young people with specific needs and enhance all children’s learning
“We’ve been delighted with the support and assessments through Brimstone Psychology. Our parents and students were supported by Brimstone Psychology to fully engage in the process, forming a great connection with the students and families and it’s helped us all gain a greater understanding of the children’s needs and better meet them since. The work was carried out swiftly and the assessment reports are of a very high quality, helping us to move forward with the next stage of support!”
