Educational Psychology Assessments for Parents and Families

If you are concerned about your child’s learning, development, wellbeing or experience at school, an Educational Psychology assessment can help build a clearer picture of their strengths, needs and the support that may help them.

At Brimstone Psychology, our assessments are collaborative and individualised. We bring together the perspectives of your child, your family and their school, alongside observation and direct assessment where appropriate. Our aim is not simply to identify areas of difficulty, but to understand your child in context and provide practical, evidence-based recommendations for moving forward.

Comprehensive Educational Psychology Assessment

£1,750 per child

Our comprehensive assessment provides an in-depth understanding of your child’s strengths and needs. It may be particularly helpful where needs are complex, where existing support has not been sufficient, or where you are considering or preparing for an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Needs Assessment or Review.

We work directly with you, your child and their school, using assessment approaches selected according to your child’s individual needs. Information from different sources is brought together to develop a detailed profile and recommendations for ongoing support.

The package includes:

  • Support from an Educational Psychologist and Assistant Educational Psychologist throughout the process
  • Individual consultation with parents/carers
  • Consultation with key school staff, usually including the SENCo
  • Observation of your child within their educational setting
  • Direct assessment with your child in a familiar environment
  • Gathering your child’s views using approaches appropriate to their age and needs
  • Review and synthesis of relevant documentation in collaboration with school
  • A debrief meeting with relevant school staff following assessment
  • A detailed EHC-style report setting out your child’s strengths and needs, alongside bespoke, evidence-based recommendations for support

Concise Educational Psychology Assessment

£1,000 per child

Our concise assessment is designed for families who would benefit from Educational Psychology involvement but do not currently require a full EHC-style assessment and report.

We work with your child, family and school to develop a focused understanding of their strengths and needs. We then bring the key adults around your child together through a solutions-focused consultation to agree practical next steps.

The emphasis is on helping home and school combine their knowledge of your child with psychological insight to identify achievable and appropriate support.

The package includes:

  • Observation of your child in their educational setting
  • Direct work to gather your child’s views
  • Consultation with parents/carers and school staff
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused discussion to agree next steps
  • A concise written summary of the consultation, identified needs and agreed actions for support

Which assessment is right for my child?

The Comprehensive Assessment is most appropriate where a detailed psychological assessment and EHC-style report are required, including where an EHC Needs Assessment or Review is being considered.

The Concise Assessment may be more appropriate where the priority is understanding your child’s current strengths and needs and developing practical strategies with their school, without requiring the depth of assessment and reporting included within the comprehensive package.
